On 19 August 2022, Experimental Drug Development Centre (EDDC) hosted a visit by Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr Gan Kim Yong. This visit was part of Mr Gan’s efforts to learn more about the role that the nation’s Research, Innovation and Enterprise (RIE) community plays in nurturing a thriving biotech ecosystem in Singapore.
Mr Gan was updated by the Biotech Working Committee on the National Biotech Initiative’s plans and ongoing efforts to further support and develop Singapore’s biotech ecosystem. EDDC CEO, Prof Damian O’Connell, then shared about EDDC’s key achievements and initiatives, done in collaboration with public and private partners, in the past 3 years since our centre’s launch.
Representatives from the industry, including venture capital and local biotech companies, were also invited to attend a dialogue with the Minister. They discussed the growth opportunities and challenges of operating in the local ecosystem, and the importance of nurturing and attracting talents for the nation’s RIE landscape.
The visit was concluded with a tour of EDDC’s High Throughput Screening (HTS) facility, led by Dr Jackie Ang from our HTS team. Mr Gan and his entourage viewed our state-of-the-art automation platform in action, and Minister was also invited to simulate inserting a 384-well plate into the compound store.
